Ashram College in Nieuwkoop is an energy-neutral and healthy VMBO/HAVO school, fully designed around the principles of connection, versatility, and sustainability. In the new building, designed by Broekbakema, flexibility, collaboration, and a warm, personalized learning environment take center stage. Three educational departments are grouped around a multifunctional central heart, with no traditional hallways, but open learning plazas that promote interaction between students and teachers.
The school building combines expressive architecture with energy efficiency. Thanks to smart orientation, passive sun shading, high-quality insulation, a thermal energy storage (TES) system, and more than 350 solar panels, the building is energy-neutral and meets the Dutch Frisse Scholen Class B standard.
Duracryl provided the sustainable Ndurance flooring — a seamless, comfortable, and wear-resistant solution that perfectly aligns with the school’s high ambitions for sustainability and health. Through co-creation with teachers and experts, a learning environment has been created that is not only inspiring and future-proof, but also encourages entrepreneurial learning at the very heart of Nieuwkoop.
